Victoria was born on 24 May 1819 in London, and lived a sheltered childhood with her mother and German governess. Her own father, Edward, the Duke of Kent had died when she was a baby. On the death of her uncle, William IV, Victoria was the only legitimate heir and therefore first in the line of succession.

In 1838, at the age of eighteen, Victoria ascended the throne relying heavily on the guidance of the then Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne. Her marriage to Prince Albert in 1840 gave her further support, resulting in a happy marriage, which produced nine children.

Queen Victoria reigned until her death on 22 January 1901 at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver with a mintage of no more then 5,000.
